This Supervisory position is at the full performance level and is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (GLA) in the Environmental Management Service.

Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing task (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives. The incumbent works with staff consisting of Housekeeping Aid Work Leaders and Housekeeping Aids. Tours of duty may vary depending on the internal department needs with weekdays, weekends, day and evening shift schedules. Incumbent must be able to work independently and may act as the Area/General Foreman in their absence. Clean all patient areas, corridor spaces throughout Medical Center, Operating Rooms, and all other areas as assigned Applies appropriate cleaning solutions to various types of floors (linoleum, wood, or marble), walls, and ceilings to clean and maintain such surfaces Cleans patient rooms using sanitizing chemicals that will not compromise patients health to disinfect surfaces Performs within established guidelines, operating procedures and department and Medical Center policy Ensures time and attendance records are accurate and complete prior to submission to timekeeper Assuring the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules set by higher levels of supervision Perform quality inspections of assigned areas, recording discrepancies in cleanliness, needed maintenance repairs, broken or inadequately stored furnishings and equipment Operate powered equipment such as scrubbing machines, buffers, carpet cleaning machines and/or industrial vacuums Keep subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies; control the use of supplies and equipment to affect cost control within the unit Give special direction to new employees in order to prepare them for individual assignments, procedures and safety policies Schedule regular meetings with staff to make them aware of any new procedures or directives Keep supervisor informed as to the condition of staff, unusual occurrences or matters that should be brought to the attention of their supervisor Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid Supervisor/PD11396A Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/17/2023. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work hours may include days, nights, evenings, holidays and/or weekends. The physical demands of the position are those normally associated with housekeeping including extensive physical efforts such as lifting, pulling and pushing heavy objects, walking, standing, stooping, bending, reaching and climbing stairways and ladders. The use and control of powered equipment is required while instructing subordinates. The work environment demands strong physical capabilities, and the ability to focus. Must be able to work independently and under stressful conditions. Working conditions include heavy physical, emotional and mental demands along with mild to severe environments conditions. This position requires occasional bending/stooping, crouching, and kneeling. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. 40% of time spent standing, 40% of time spent walking and 20% of time spent sitting. Must have average hearing and visual acuity. Is required to use a phone, operate vehicles, and have average manual dexterity. May be required to work outside. May require some exposure to cleaning chemicals. The work is accomplished in a variety of different areas including operating rooms, treatment rooms, examination rooms, imaging rooms, wards and other public, recreational and administrative areas. Protective clothing and personnel protective equipment (PPE) including gowns, gloves, safety shoes, masks, etc. is required in the accomplishment of some aspects of the work. There is the potential for exposure to strong cleaning solutions, bodily fluids and communicable disease. The work can involve occupied patient rooms and interaction with both medical and psychiatric patients.
