This position is announced by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers on behalf of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), DHS Headquarters Science & Technology Directorate.
Duties
This position is in the Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate, Transportation Security Laboratory in Atlantic City, NJ. The mission of the S&T Directorate is to develop and deliver effective and sustainable technologies and systems to anticipate, prevent, defeat, and mitigate catastrophic terrorist attacks and to enhance conventional mission capabilities of other DHS operational areas. The primary purpose of this position is to perform research and finalize written materials, which may include, but not limited to technical publications, briefing materials, reports, communications documents, and communications and outreach initiatives; as well as records and records management; ensuring that information provided is consistent and accurate.
Requirements

- You will be required to undergo pre-appointment drug testing for illegal drug use. Employment is contingent upon favorable results.
- You will be required to complete an OGE 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, within 30 days of starting your federal employment and annually thereafter as long as you occupy a position that requires financial disclosure reporting.
- This position requires you to have access, safeguard, and store classified national security information on a regular basis. You must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

The qualification requirements listed below must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
For the GS-13: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level performing the following duties: 1) Analyzing and communicating program information for internal and external stakeholders; 2) Researching and verifying the accuracy of information from a wide range of sources; 3) Maintaining sensitive and classified technical documents according to classification guides; 4) Researching and writing communications initiatives such as publications, outreach initiatives and briefing materials. 5) Coordinating multiple media and outreach requests to ensure they are handled timely and effectively.
For the GS-12: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level performing the following duties: 1) Compiling and communicating program information for internal and external stakeholders; 2) Researching and verifying the accuracy of information from a wide range of sources; 3) Maintaining sensitive and classified technical documents according to classification guides. 4) Editing and researching communications initiatives such as publications, outreach initiatives and briefing materials.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps and AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel Management must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
