The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a continuity source ensuring full Inspector General (IG) capability with respect to all practical, technical, and managerial phases of the IG office work. Exercises first level supervisory and managerial authorities over the Center IG office.

This position provides technical and/or administrative direction to one or more subordinates but occupies less than the required minimum of the position's time; or is not performing the full range of supervisory duties for subordinate employees (i.e., performance ratings and discipline). As the IG Director, plans, directs, and manages the programs of the center Inspector General office. As a significant responsibility, critical recruitment level of emphasis, and performance on a regular recurring basis serves as the commander's principal advisor on Air Force Complaints Resolution program. Oversees the operation and management of Self-Assessment, Exercise, and Inspection programs. Represents the Inspector General office and programs with a variety of wing/center and functional area organizations.

  • Obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET clearance
  • Work may require access to classified information. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • This is a designated Drug Testing Position
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • A Master?s degree or equivalent experience in public management, administration or criminal justice is desired but not mandatory.
  • This position requires a high degree of discretion due to access to sensitive information.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station
  • In accordance with AF guidance, incumbent must complete the Inspector General Training Course for Inspections (IGTC-I), and the IG Training Course-Complaints Resolution (IGTC-Q) within 90 days after assignment.
  • Must complete all necessary requirements to achieve certification within 6 months of appointment. Successful completion of other courses will be accomplished IAW applicable DoD and AF regulations.

  • This position MAY BE eligible for a relocation incentive UP TO a maximum of 25% of annual base pay. Specifics will be discussed with the Selecting Official.

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-03, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-13 or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience must include developing policy, goals and objectives that integrate IG programs to comply with AF and DoD objectives; Reviews and assigns a variety of IG complaints, grievances, or inquiries that cover a diverse range of complex subjects and allegations; Manages self-assessment and/ or staff assistance visits (SAV), and ensures detailed and comprehensive reports with any corrective action taken are presented to the wing/center commander. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of complex inspection, investigation, enforcement, and/or compliance principles, concepts, and practices; as well as knowledge of Public Laws, Executive Orders, DoD Regulations, Air Force Instructions, administrative and legal procedures, and other decisions/standards related to agency activities and IG programs sufficient to conduct interviews, inspections, and investigations to analyze the nature of the complaint and specific issues to be addressed. 2. Knowledge of Air Force, MAJCOM, and installation program goals and objectives; IG functions, operations, policies, procedures, and practices; the sequence and timing of key operational events and milestones; and the relationship of various installation entities involved in overall program planning and execution of military operations and evaluations. 3. Knowledge of personnel management, Diversity Equity & Inclusion, Equal Opportunity, and safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. 4. Skill in assessing program needs to accomplish goals and objectives, evaluate program status, and recommend or implement solutions for improvement. 5. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of an organization; and to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. 6. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing; as well as using tact and diplomacy during difficult circumstances to advise/inform on complicated, sensitive, and occasionally controversial issues. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
