This position is part of the Plant Operations,Government Publishing Office inWashington , District of Columbia.
Duties
Provides technical training to apprentices for duration of apprentice program.
Instructs apprentices by conducting demonstrations on press equipment.
Records weekly activities of apprentices assigned to his or her section to include information about equipment operated and signature verification by appropriate officials
Prepares reports and maintains records.
Identifies and researches training opportunities for apprentices/journeypersons to keep up with the industry standards.
Monitors progress of apprentices, making determinations and recommendations as to whether additional training is needed.
Uses color management and profiles for inkjet and color presses
Utilizes a wide variety of sheetfed and roll fed media
Demonstrates new set-up methods and equipment operations to journeypersons.
Assists apprentices in the proper set-up, operation, and troubleshooting of press equipment
Requirements
- You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
- Selectees must pass a physical examination prior to appointment.
- Strength test may be required.
- Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Physical - Effort: Duties require prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching above the shoulder, and climbing. A moderate amount of hand, wrist, and arm movements is involved.
- Physical - Effort: Duties require Moderate lifting is required for objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Incumbent is required to have good eye-hand coordination and proficient vision.
- Working Conditions: Duties are performed in a production environment where there is exposure to moving mechanical parts, noise, odors/fumes and dust.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Craft Training Representative, KO-4416-00
Knowledge to independently provide technical training to apprentices for duration of apprentice program; Instruct apprentices by conducting demonstrations on pre-press equipment; Records weekly activities of apprentices; Prepares reports and maintains records; Demonstrates new set-up methods and equipment operations to journeypersons; Use color management and profiles for inkjet and color presses; Utilize a wide variety of sheetfed and roll fed media.

In addition to the requirements above, GPO employees competing under merit promotion procedures must meet all of the following criteria in accordance with Federal Merit Promotion Plan, GPO Instruction 615.2C (Appendix B): 1. Have completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacancy; AND 2. Have at least 1 year of journeyperson experience subsequent to completion of the above apprenticeship or training; AND 3. Have served a minimum of 1 year in Career or Career-Conditional appointment in the GPO.(add supervisory statement from MP Plan). 4. Have served at least 1 year in an administrative or supervisory capacity.
OR
1) Have obtained a Baccalaureate Degree or three years of responsible experience in the printing industry equivalent, at a minimum, to the GPO journeyperson level, 2) Have two years of experience in the printing industry of a scope and quality sufficient to carry out the duties of the position - one year of which was at or comparable to the PG-12 level, AND 3) Have served a minimum of one year in a career or career-conditional appointment in GPO.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.
