This position is located in the Soil and Plant Science Division (SPSD), Office of the Deputy Chief for Soil Science and Resource Assessment (SSRA), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). This position serves as the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Administrator. This position works with Directors, Program Managers and Laboratory personnel to ensure laboratory data is correct and delivered efficiently.

Duties

Keeps all analysts and instrument computers current with latest versions and data backed up back to Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) data and associated files. Facilitates integration of new instruments and analytical procedures and associated calculations, data capture, data storage and distribution functions. Ensures best practices for laboratory and internal service functions, including sample receiving and processing, sample documentation and metadata, sample flow paths, supply procurement and inventory, etc. Keeps up to date with latest technology trends and data science methods through appropriate training, education, and research. Leads or collaborates with appropriate staff in creating advanced analytic products, such as complex analyses and Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms.

Qualifications

Degree: Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, Information Systems (database or geographic), or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.; OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. In addition to meeting one of the Basic Requirements listed above, applicants must meet the following Minimum Qualifications Requirement in order to be considered: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level(s) in which you are applying: Specialized Experience for the GS-14: One or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties: Participating in the planning, design, development, and implementation of data science techniques and methods; Develop algorithms and/or tools to support data manipulation and processing; Creating and presenting analytical reports for senior leadership; AND Performing data collection and analytic techniques in support of mission requirements.
