This position is located within a National Forest. The primary purpose of this position is to perform as a member of an archeological survey crew and is responsible for aiding in basic archeological compliance through field work.

Duties

Serves on a team conducting simple surveys and receives training in the use of a compass, topographical maps, and aerial photographs. Assists in recording information about sites found on standard archaeological forms. Assists with marking site boundaries with flagging tape. Assists in preparing site sketch maps and assists in taking photographs of visible remains. Assists with the collection of samples of artifacts and plotting their locations.

Requirements

  • You must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Provide course descriptions as necessary. GS-03: Applicants must have six months of any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation; OR one year of education above high school; OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience; OR completion of an intensive, specialized course of study of less than one year at a technical school or through a military or government sponsored training program that was designed specifically as career preparation for the work of the position being filled. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, technical school, junior college, college or university and include courses that are related to the occupation of the position. Examples of General Experience includes:Working on a landscape or construction crew or another outdoor environment. Performing general office duties, such as completing, filing and maintaining simple records. Working and performing other general labor in an outdoor environment. Any work experience paid or unpaid in a related activity. Unpaid experience, for example, may be regular volunteer work, such as at a park, hospital, community sports league, etc. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
