About the Position: This position is located at Fort Leonard Wood Fire Protection and Prevention Division at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Duties

Function as the Assistant Fire Chief for Training for the Fire and Emergency Services Division (FESD), Directorate of Emergency Services (DES), Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Direct fire department training branch in the daily application of sound fire department training practices to ensure the operation of a comprehensive fire department training program. Responsible for the overall management of the training of FESD personnel; the management of the fire departments hazardous materials program, and the fire departments? occupational safety and health program. Ensure reference materials are kept current; filling changes as they are updated or received. Conduct recurring proficiency training in each functional area of fire protection; conducts live exercises involving structural fires, technical rescue, aircraft rescue firefighting, hazardous materials, and emergency medical care. Department?s Hazardous Material Officer, and Safety Officer, assuming full supervisory functions and controls of day-to-day operations of the department in the absence of the Fire Chief. Fill in for Operations Assistant Chiefs in their absence and performs as Incident Commander on Hazardous Materials Team-Weapons of Mass Destruction. Interview candidates and recommend selection, promotion, reassignment awards for employees. Hear and resolve labor complaints. Effects minor disciplinary actions. Supervise all personnel assigned to the section on light-duty. Advise and or counsel employees on technical and administrative matters.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Heavy physical lifting is required of this position. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to navigate/ climb in and over obstacles, to move charged fire hose lines.
• Climb ladders up to 100 feet, and effectively operate assigned equipment and apparatus such as motor vehicles, communications equipment, and fire and rescue tools and appliances.
• Incumbent may be required to work outside in inclement weather at all hours of the day.
• There may be hazards while operating or riding fire trucks under adverse conditions. Incumbent may be required to operate wearing heavy and or bulky personal protective equipment.
• Position is subject to recall to duty.
• Maintains a government motor vehicle license, operates government vehicles in performance of assigned duties.
• Work schedule is a 60-hour work week, and incumbent is required to work one night over each week.
• Incumbent is required to participate in a scheduled Cardiovascular Training Program.
• Must be DOD Certified to the level of the position in accordance with DODI 6055.06.
• Must maintain the following certifications as a minimum: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor III, Fire Inspector II, HAZMAT Technician, HAZMAT Incident Commander, Airport Fire Fighter and FEMA IS-700 and IS-800.
• This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
• Conforms to the requirements set forth in NFPA 1500, Fire Department Occupational Health and Safety Program
• Performs temporary duty travel for the purpose of obtaining specialized training and other fire and emergency services duties.
• This position is designated as essential during inclement weather, fire hazardous duty, and other emergency operations.
• Must possess and maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator?s license of the appropriate classification or kind.
