The Pipefitter position is located in-house construction, Engineering Service, VA North Texas Health Care System, VA Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, Dallas, TX.

Duties

Duties include but may not be limited to the following: Installs, maintains, and repairs all plumbing facilities and equipment such as showers, sinks, toilets, sterilizes, dishwashing machines, floor drains, faucets, drinking fountains, wall bubblers, sewer mains, drain lines, sprinkler system and laundry equipment such as washers, heat exchangers, water softeners, stills, hot and cold-water drainage and sewer distribution systems. Maintains/repairs and installs the medical air, oxygen, vacuum and gas system to include the related components and subsystem. Installs, maintains and repairs steam equipment throughout the hospital repairs laundry and dietetic equipment which includes steam mains from boiler house, steam cookers, steam tables, pressure cookers, hot water heaters, radiators, steam traps, condense and steam distribution system. Repairs and replaces defective gas and air lines; installs and replaces pipe covering. Maintains laundry equipment regarding steam connections, etc. Work Schedule: Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized

PHYSICAL EFFORTS: The Pipefitter's work requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, and crouching. Due to the nature o-(the work exertion and fatigue are experienced. The employee is subject to cuts, bruises, infection diseases, etc., along with objectionable odors. AND WORK CONDITIONS: The work is performed indoors and outdoors. The Pipefitter works in manholes, kitchens, building basements, etc. Often work is performed in cramped and close quarters. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. While a specific length of training and experience is not required, your responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume.
