This position is located within a National Forest. The primary purpose of this position is providing geospatial data management support for Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and other cartographic activities supporting land, resources and ecosystem management functions.
Duties
Compiles and updates metadata records for geospatial data sets. Collects geospatial and resource data using manual and technology assisted methods including GPS and mobile computing technology.
Incorporates field collected and remote sensing data into corporate geospatial data sets using established procedures. Updates geospatial data sets for multiple disciplines including recreation, silviculture, wildlife, hydrology, engineering, etc.
Uses basic operations and scripted processes to manipulate and analyze geospatial data to support multi-resource analysis in support of planning, analysis, and monitoring activities; and resource management decision making.
Uses GIS software and cartographic tools to create simple thematic and reference maps following appropriate standards for symbology, color, labeling and marginalia. Reads metadata for geospatial data sets to determine appropriate use.
Selects appropriate reference data for thematic map products and presentation materials for multi-disciplinary resource management planning, preparation of environmental and social assessments, environmental impact statements and other projects.
Produces simple maps and graphics for many varied forest resource programs, planning documents, and a variety of other requirements.
Requirements

Qualifications

GS-06: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5). For the GS-06 there is no substitution of education for this position.
