Duties

Incumbent serves as the Chief Radiologic Technologist at a healthcare facility (VAMC) with comprehensive, complex radiographic and imaging programs. Plans and direct the radiologic technology program at the affiliated VAMC and has full supervisory responsibility for a large staff of nonsupervisory personnel, including GS-10 DRTs, at least 1 subordinate team leader or supervisor at the next lower grade level, and any Imaging clerical or administrative support staff in a radiologic technology program which includes the full variety of specialties. Performs the full range of supervisory duties, including responsibility for assignment of work performed; performance evaluations; recommendations for appointments, awards, advancements, and, when appropriate, disciplinary actions; and identification of continuing education and training needs; serves as a consultant to other facility personnel in evaluating and planning radiologic technology services for the most complex cases; participates in research studies and/or as a consultant to others conducting research; consults with staff and resident physicians through patient presentation, attending ward rounds, and specialty clinics and/or conferences, etc.; and assesses, plans, and evaluates the delivery of radiologic technology services at the facility. Incumbent evaluates new products and equipment, making recommendations to supervisor concerning upgrades/new purchases that would improve; directs development and implementation of services and treatment to patients through the supervision, mentoring, and oversight of assigned clinical staff; performs imaging studies as needed to mitigate staffing shortages and/or increased demand. Analyzes organizational, technical, and administrative problems and to develop and implements solutions that result in efficient section operation; evaluates quality management procedures and processes; uses data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity; develops new policies and guidelines as needed; engages in problem solving and conflict resolution. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Certification: Must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT)(R). NOTE: Experience is only creditable if it was earned after completion of the basic ARRT certification requirements. Experience as a graduate DRT is creditable provided the candidate functioned as a DRT and subsequently passed the certification examination. Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies recognized by the Department of Education. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA policy. Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for appointment, the following criteria must be used when determining the appropriate grade assignment of candidates: GS-12 Experience. Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Qualifying experience would include (NOTE: this experience must be detailed on your resume to be found qualified for this position): Responsibility for department's annual budget preparation and execution. Implementing and coordinating the Joint Commission (TJC) and all other external or internal review programs. Maintaining and advising on department's imaging equipment inventory listing. Overseeing all imaging equipment purchases, to include contract preparation and vendor negotiation and related procedures required to complete the process. Managing subordinate staff by assigning workload, ensuring production standards are met, reviewing/approving leave requests, conducting performance appraisals, and effecting disciplinary action, as needed. Developing, implementing, and evaluating policies and procedures governing radiology activities within the department. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) for Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist. Applicants at this grade level must also meet the following KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): 1. Ability to perform the full range of supervisory duties, including responsibility for assignment of work performed; performance evaluations; recommendations for appointments, awards, advancements, and, when appropriate, disciplinary actions; and identification of continuing education and training needs. 2. Ability to serve as a consultant to other facility personnel in evaluating and planning radiologic technology services for the most complex cases. 3. Ability to participate in research studies and/or as a consultant to others conducting research. 4. Ability to consult with staff and resident physicians through patient presentation, attending ward rounds, and specialty clinics and/or conferences, etc. 5. Ability to assess, plan, and evaluate the delivery of radiologic technology services at the facility. Preferred Experience: Minimum 2 years Assistant Chief Technologist at 24 hour inpatient hospital Minimum 5 years experience supervising MRI, CT, UL , X-ray, mammography, Interventional Radiology Advanced ARRT certification References: VA Handbook 5005, Part II, APPENDIX G25. DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST QUALIFICATION STANDARD GS-06477, Dated December 13, 2019. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is 12. Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting & carrying (15-44 lbs); Straight pulling and pushing (Up to 7 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking and standing (Up to 7 hours); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; Far vision 20/50 and 20/100; Emotional/mental stability.
