About the Position: This position is located at Bethesda, Maryland. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Student Loan repayment may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Work hours will be 1500-2330.

Duties

Plan and revise work schedules and assignments to assure an even flow and distribution of work. Assign responsibilities to subordinates, review the work and provide guidance and assistance on technical and administrative matters. Develop and coordinate mandatory and continuing education for assigned staff. Develop performance standards and prepare performance appraisals. Receive, review and interpret prescriptions, determine type of substance, strength, dosage and quantity to be dispensed in accordance with accepted practice and pharmacy standing operating procedures. Perform final check on outpatient prescriptions that have been filled by other technicians prior to dispensing. Serve as the subject matter expert on automated processing and pharmacy equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
  • This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifications for GS-07 Supervisory Pharmacy Technician: Specialized experience is defined as: includes filling prescriptions, distributing pharmaceuticals, utilizing pharmacy based computer systems, and supervising or training employees within a pharmacy setting. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education Substitution: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate-level education in Pharmacology or a related field of study, from an accredited college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Experience and Education: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
