This position is located on the Wheat, Sorghum, & Forage Research Unit, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Plains Area (PA), in Lincoln, NE.
In this position you will participate in research to improve the productivity, sustainability of production, and value of wheat, sorghum and forage crops.
Duties
Collects, prepares, evaluates and verifies samples and supporting records.
Maintains inventory of chemicals, stock solutions, etc., prepares solutions and reagents for use in the laboratory, field, or greenhouse.
Participates in one or more phases of the research process by performing a variety of complex technical duties in a laboratory, field or greenhouse environment.
Adapts, modifies, or develops new techniques and/or procedures to satisfy the needs of the research project.
Maintains, calibrates and modifies complex/specialized equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
Independently initiates action to resolve or correct technical difficulties and results or recommends resolution to supervisor.
Requirements

- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting with collecting or evaluating plant or crop samples in a laboratory, field or greenhouse environment; recording or analyzing scientific data; and operating standard scientific equipment.
OR
Education: Successful completion of one full year of graduate study leading to a master's degree. Courses must have been directly related to the position being filled. Directly related courses may include Agriculture, Agronomy, Biology, Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Genetics, Microbiology, Plant Sciences, or Crop Science.
OR
A combination of experience and education as described above.
GS-08
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience actively participating in planning and development of one or more phases of the research process; collecting and recording scientific data; and maintaining records or data.
OR
Education: Two full years of graduate level education towards a Master's degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include Agronomy, Biology, Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Genetics, Microbiology, or Crop Science.
OR
A combination of experience and education as described above.
