About the Position: As a Motor Vehicle Operator, you will be responsible for the operation of thermostatically operated refrigeration trucks in transporting perishable and non-perishable food commodities from a central district storage location to river revetment units and vessels.
NOTE: This a Permanent/Seasonal NTE 10 Months appointment. Incumbent will work 10 months out the year, when work is unavailable incumbent will be placed in a non-pay status.
Duties
Operate a straight-in-line refrigeration truck with a total gross vehicle weight of 50,000 lbs.
Direct laborers and/or personally loads or unloads truck's cargo and operates a forklift when available.
Ensure trucks are properly serviced by having oil changed and having the vehicle greased at approved service stations.
Check supplies received to ensure quality and quantity of commodities delivered agree with the order placed with the firm.
Upon delivery, check lists of supplies being delivered, securing delivery receipt signatures.
Load the trucks to ensure items are secure to prevent shifting or falling while in transit, and to minimize the possibility of vehicle sway.
Maneuver vehicle within close tolerances when driving and backing over specially constructed uneven roads and muddy roads; and onto congested barges.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 60 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 50% of the time.
- This position requires the incumbent to work in inclement weather conditions.
- This position requires that the individual selected must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision which includes; operating twelve forward gears and one reverse that are used to transport personnel, equipment, material, and supplies over highways, public roads, and unimproved roadways to, from, and between jobsites.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Moderate physical effort is required in operation of the vehicle in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Moderate physical effort is frequently required in handling objects weighing up to 60 pounds and the occasional handling of objects weighing over 90 pounds while loading and unloading cargo.
Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work outside and is occasionally exposed to bad weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles. Drives in all types of traffic and weather and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents. Incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving.
