The Marion, IL VA Medical Center is hiring an Industrial Equipment Mechanic to join the Engineering Service.
Duties
Functions as an Industrial Equipment Mechanic in the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) section within the Engineering Services, at the Marion VAMC. Responsible for repairs and preventive maintenance inspections and procedures on various building systems and building service Equipment. .Duties include but are not limited to the following:
accountability of tools, material and test equipment will ensure that they are not lost, stolen, or damaged due to negligence
abide by prescribed safety codes, standards, and practices
perform installations, removal and repair of a wide range of electrical equipment such as power circuits, lighting systems, transformers, starters, controllers, production equipment and control systems
Mechanical work on electrical equipment
install variable speed drivers
install piping to computer-controlled energy management system
perform preventive maintenance and repair switchgear and on transformers of all sizes
brings tool, equipment and materials to work assignments to and from work areas and to shops storage areas while keeping everything neat, clean, secure and orderly.
Work Schedule: 7:00am - 3:30pm Monday - Friday

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Be able to work in restricted and in uncomfortable places. Performs tasks normally requiring moderate physical exertion, including frequent medium lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling and negotiating confined spaces. Standing and walking most of the time, positioning heavy equipment, parts and materials. Weights of 40-50lbs shall be handled. The work setting is primarily indoors, but some work is performed outdoors in inclement weather. Occasionally work is performed in very cold, hot or unventilated areas or outside.
