About the Position: Responsible for installation conservation, natural, and cultural resources management, to include wildland fire, endangered species, fish and wildlife, inventory, monitoring, permitting, and compliance activities (e.g., Federal Sikes Act, Endangered Species Act (ESA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) while promoting a landscape that supports effective military training.

Duties

Supervise professional and technical staff and oversee contractor personnel. Provide input to the annual work plan, develop five-year plans, and make adjustments as needed. Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate programs for conservation and natural resources management, to include wild land fire, endangered species, fish and wildlife, inventory, monitoring, permitting, and compliance activities. Provide advice, assistance, and training to enhance understanding of environmental issues and requirements.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continue, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in on of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for a Supervisory Natural Resources Specialist: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience managing environmental programs to comply with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Endangered Species Act (ESA); preparing and reviewing environmental documentation and permits for compliance; and determining the impact of proposed projects on the environment and natural resources. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11 or above). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Environmental Law and Regulatory ComplianceManaging Human ResourcesNatural Resource ManagementOral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
