Duties

WG-07 - Under supervision, maintain/repair electrical systems to provide reliable service to customers. WG-07 - Assist higher graded operators to maintain structures, building, roads or grounds utilizing various trade practices and materials to ensure operational status. WG-07 - Under supervision, of licensed operator ensure proper chemicals at water and sewer facilities to keep plants operating within established guidelines. WG-07 - Operate and/or complete repairs on four-wheel field-type tractor, loader, backhoe, mower or dump trucks. WG-07 - Under supervision, maintain various types of water pump, equipment or motors to insure safe reliable operation. WG-07 - Under supervision, carry out water and wastewater system maintenance operations through the use of a variety of schematics and instructional guides. WG--09 - Maintain/repair electrical systems to provide reliable service to customers. WG-09 - Maintain structures, buildings, roads and grounds utilizing various trade practices and materials to ensure operational status. WG-09 - Ensure proper chemicals are added to water and sewer facilities to keep plants operating within established guidelines. WG-09 - Operate and complete repairs on four-wheel field type tractor, loader, backhoe, mower or dump trucks. WG-09 - Maintain various types of water pumps, equipment, or motors to ensure safe reliable operation. WG-09 - Carry out water and wastewater system maintenance or operations through the use of a variety of schematics and instructional guides.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • WG-07 - Must be able to obtain with 18 months and maintain a Pennsylvania State Water License, Class D and E Type 2 (Direct Filtration), 8 (Chemical Addition), 9 (Ion Exchange and Greensand) and 12 (Non-Gaseous Chemical Disinfection) or higher.
  • WG-07 - Must be able to obtain within 18 months and maintain a Pennsylvania State Wastewater Operator?s License, Class C and E with Sub-Classification of '1' (Activated Sludge) and of '4' (Single Entity) or higher.
  • WG-09 - Must possess and maintain a Pennsylvania State Water License, Class D and E, Type 2 (Direct Filtration), 8 (Chemical Addition), 9 (Ion Exchange and Greensand) and 12 (Non-Gaseous Chemical Disinfection) or higher.
  • WG-09 - Must possess and maintain a Pennsylvania State Wastewater Operator?s License, Class C and E with Sub-Classification of '1' (Activated Sludge) and of '4' (Single Entity) or higher.
  • Must possess and maintain all required certifications necessary to comply with State and Federal laws and regulations pertaining to waste and water treatment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver?s License.
  • Within one year of appointment, incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A, Pennsylvania Commercial Driver?s License.
  • Required to work weekends and holidays and be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Required to wear a Corps of Engineers uniform and appropriate personal protection equipment.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • Incumbent must possess or be able to acquire cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR, first aid, and blood-borne pathogen training) within the first year of assignment.
  • Incumbent is required to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.).
  • This position is required to lift up to 45 pounds or more in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position require travel up to approximately 25% of the time.
  • NOTE: Exposure to stinging insects (possible reaction - anaphylactic shock) and poisonous plants or reptiles may be encountered.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. WG-07 Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a Utility Systems Operator, WG-5406-07 position without more than normal supervision performing tasks such as (1) Learning water and sewer treatment equipment operation; (2) Learning water quality testing methods and procedures; and (3) Learning how to introduce chemicals into the water systems under guidance from a licensed operator. WG-09 Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a Utility Systems Operator, WG-5406-09 position without more than normal supervision performing tasks such as (1) Operating common water and sewer treatment equipment; (2) Measuring and introducing chemicals into the water system; and (3) Troubleshooting operational issues. Physical Efforts: Requires considerable walking and standing on concrete floors, minimum of 4 hours per day, and light effort to turn valves and controls. Position demands heavy physical ability to lift a minimum of 45 pounds or over; in unloading, stacking, or emptying chemicals and compounds into feeders. Duties necessitate working in strained positions while cleaning, repairing and inspecting equipment; working in one of over a dozen identified confined spaces on the Project. Incumbent must anticipate using various hand and power tools such as an axe, a shovel, a power saw, and related tools. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all kinds of weather, ranging in temperatures from below freezing to temperatures exceeding 90 degrees; and outside ground conditions ranging from dry to mud, snow, sleet, or ice. Performs tasks which require contact with running motors, pumps, and machinery and exposure to infections or diseases such as typhoid, paratyphoid, and dysentery. Faces the danger of falling into open tanks, manholes, or scum chambers containing human waste resultant in potential cuts, bruises, or broken bones. Works in the presence of gases and fumes such as methane, chlorine, and carbon monoxide, which requires the use of personal protective equipment such as full and/or half-faced respirators, eye and ear protection. Incumbent is exposed to poisonous chemicals and compounds which require protective gloves and disposable protective clothing when handling. Is exposed to continuous low to high decibel noise levels, requiring hearing protection. Travels to all associated systems to conduct periodic inspections ranging from 5 to 50 miles, and reporting all required data to State regulators within required deadline or suspense dates.
