Duties

As a Staff Assistant, at the full performance level, you will perform the following duties: Performing a full range of administrative research and analytical duties, a variety of liaison activities, and special assignments, related to the missions and functions of the office; Relieving the manager of unnecessary interruptions and demands on his/her time by handling matters of a general nature or referring particularly technical matters to the appropriate individual; Providing comprehensive reports on administrative projects by gathering and analyzing data and recommending suggestions for improvement and implementation; Developing, devising and analyzing internal administrative policies, procedures and management processes of the office through independent reviews, coordination with internal and external components, preparation of special reports, and extensive research and analysis; and Maintaining information regarding issues and problems under the jurisdiction of the manager.

Requirements

  • Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess one of the following: Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as: Preparing a variety of reports utilizing various databases and automated systems; Compiling and preparing administrative information and documentation for management, ensuring established priorities and deadlines are met; Assisting senior level staff in implementing and interpreting general administrative policies and procedures; and Making logistical arrangements for meetings and conferences. OR Education: A master's or equivalent graduate degree, two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or a LL.B/J.D., if related. Graduate level education must have been from an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of successfully completed graduate level education and experience. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application. Graduate level education must have been from an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one of the following: Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as: Coordinating administrative projects within the office to include the development, analysis and modification of internal administrative policies, procedures and management processes; Providing administrative guidance and assistance to subordinate organizations and technical supervision to staff assistants and support personnel; Analyzing operational trends, compiling data and developing a wide variety of reports for analysis by senior management; and Preparing and/or providing briefings and presentations on administrative matters. OR Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or a LL.M., if related. Graduate level education must have been from an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and activities necessary to do the work. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of successfully completed graduate level education and experience. Graduate level education must have been from an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
