About the Position: The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) aims to conduct biomedical research that is responsive to Department of Defense and US Army requirements and delivers lifesaving products including knowledge, technology and medical material that sustain the combat effectiveness of the Warfighter.

Duties

Perform tasks at the request of the Animal Research Compliance Director and IACUC Chair Serve as an IACUC administrator responsible for processing and maintaining research protocols and all Animal Use Program (AUP) documents. Serve as an auditor of research activities involving animal care and use to ensure investigator compliance with IACUC-approved protocols, Federal and DoD regulations and Institutional policies, guidelines, and SOPs Ensure compliance with Federal and Department of Defense regulations and guidelines for Animal Care and Use. Coordinate submission of annual reports to regulatory and accrediting agencies Organize facility inspection and program review for the IACUC and applicable agencies. Organize and attend monthly IACUC meetings and compile meeting minutes based on Federal and DoD regulations as well as Roberts Rules of Order. Serve as an administrator to summarizes results of post-approval monitoring sessions, adverse events, and compliance concerns Serve as an administrator to document personnel training in the Animal Care and Use Training database. Serve as an administrator to document Occupational Health and Safety compliance and data entry into Enterprise Safety Application Management System (ESAMS) Serve as an administrator to document Security compliance and data entry into Security Management Suite database Work in a team environment to develop, organize, and facilitate regulatory compliance for all aspects of the animal care and use program.

Minimum Qualifications- Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) knowledge of Federal and DoD regulations necessary to manage and maintain an animal care and use program; 2) managing database and data entry procedures for animal protocol information; 3) coordinating data for annual compliance reports to regulatory and accrediting agencies; 3) performing data input and retrieval to compile personnel training reports; and 4) knowledge of protocol audit procedures necessary to be compliant with Federal and DoD regulations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
