You will serve as a COMBINED TRADES SUPERVISOR I in the CRANE MAINTENANCE DIVISION, LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will plan overall work assignments on a weekly or monthly basis in accordance with established schedule requirements. You will ensure plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and needed stock is obtained from supply locations. You will establish, assign, and explain work requirements to employees, setting deadlines, priorities, and sequences to be followed for work operations. You will identify training and qualification needs of subordinates; effects on-the-job training, recommending personnel actions, and enforcing disciplinary actions.

Requirements

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: -Planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing, numerous quality related issues and elements as they relate to the requirements and documentation of lifting and handling equipment. -Ability to coordinate numerous assist trade work and functions on a daily basis. -Resolving work problems and taking action to overcome bottlenecks, equipment breakdowns, material shortages, and other delays. -Ensuring materials and equipment are properly stored, safeguarded, maintained, and replacement parts are readily available. -Interpreting blueprints, industrial and electronic wiring diagrams, schematics and symbols, sketches, drawings, technical instructions, work orders, and documentation.
