Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team with the District of Eastern Arkansas. Typical work duties include: Providing technical assistance to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and systems capabilities to develop and facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation and trial presentation. Using various software applications to efficiently open cases, close cases, and organize, analyze, and present case materials for discovery. Preparing computerized trial exhibits and presentations using hardware such as printers, plotters, audio-visual devices, among others. Researching, analyzing, and summarizing relevant legal precedents for applicability to assigned cases as appropriate. Preparing exhibits for legal proceedings involving a wide range of visual materials including charts, diagrams, photographs, and models Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions: Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level. Specialized experience is defined as: performing routine litigation support assignments such as assisting with organizing case information; preparing discovery productions, including scanning and coding documents and creating DVDs; assisting attorneys in preparing for court such as preparing exhibits; and preparing a variety of legal documents; assisting in the use of technology to organize digital evidence; and editing a variety of legal documents; such as information request, pleadings, correspondence and memos. Education: Have one full year of graduate education in a closely related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law, Information Technology, or Computer Science) that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work of the position. OR have Bachelor's Degree or expect to complete the requirements for a Bachelor's degree within the next 9 months AND possess at least one of the following criteria: class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; an overall GPA of 3.0 OR at least a 3.0 based on courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; a GPA of at least 3.5 based on the average of required courses completed in my major field OR based on the average of required courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; OR election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. To qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions: Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level. Specialized experience is defined as: assisting an attorney with trial preparation, including making recommendations on how to proceed with trial presentations; utilizing office automation tools in order to create physical and digital trial presentations; working with investigators, agents, and legal support staff; handling a wide variety of evidence and discovery; and providing technical assistance to litigation teams. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law, Information Technology, or Computer Science): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B. or J.D.); OR two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. To qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year.

Education
