Duties
This job opportunity is for a Plumber position in the Operation and Maintenance Unit, Facilities Management Section, Support Services Branch, at the National Processing Center (NPC), U.S. Bureau of the Census located in Jeffersonville, Indiana. This position is included in the bargaining unit.

The individual selected for this position will:
Install, modify, and repair new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems.
Utilize plans/blueprints to lay out the routing, placement, pitch, incline and elevation of systems and equipment.
Align pipes, valves, fittings, and joints for accurate match along proper braces and supports to control movement and vibration and allow for expansion and contraction.
May be required to operate a Forklift or unload/load trucks, as needed.
Tour of Duty:
Monday - Friday. Hours will range between 5:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May be required to work night shift, 5:00 p.m. to 1:30a.m., after completion of required training. Alternate Work Schedule (AWS) is not available but may be offered at a later time. Alternate Work Schedule (AWS) is an 80-hour biweekly basic work requirement that is scheduled in less than 10 days, i.e., eight 9-hour days/nights, one 8-hour day/night, and one day off.
Employees are paid a 10% night differential for any hours worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Employees on a permanent appointment who were hired through a Recruiting Bulletin, who have not served in their current appointment for at least 90 days, are not eligible to apply. However, if this vacancy is in the same line of work as your current position (same qualification requirements), and selection for this position would not result in a promotion action, the 90-day waiting period does not apply.
