About the Position: This position performs various duties to assess work practices and
conditions for hazards to the health and safety of workers and is located in Fort Riley, Kansas.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Duties
Duties include inspection of work areas; conducting surveys; analyzing findings;
preparing various reports; maintaining industrial hygiene equipment; and assisting in worker education training.
Performs sampling using standard methods to establish the nature and degree of hazards, and industrial products.
Performs respirator N95 fit testing for medical personnel.
Calibrates and/or ensures compliance with existing calibration schedules for all industrial hygiene equipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a Tier 1 security investigation.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- Incumbent must be cleared by the Occupational Health Clinic as physically/psychologically able to wear respiratory protection equipment and meet other physical demands.
- A beard is not allowed because this would interfere with the proper fit of a respirator.
- Work requires the employee to operate a government-owned vehicle and may require day-trips as far as 2 hours away from the installation in one direction.
- A State Driver's License is required and must Obtain Government Driver's License within 90 days.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing under the provisions of AR 600-85.

GS-05
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes receiving simple to very basic assignments and following detailed instructions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes receiving and following instructions in industrial hygiene principles and practices, industrial work processes and the related health hazards procedures; and reviewing reports, such as accident and inquiry reports; writing limited reports of surveys, data collected, and analytical results. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Environmental Science, or related fields such as Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or Health & Safety.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
GS-07
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrating the use of safety equipment, applying measures designed to help protect workers, identifying a hazardous work environment, evaluating actions taken to correct health inspection violations, assisting with Industrial Hygiene equipment testing and inputting test data into a computerized system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Environmental Science, or related fields such as Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or Health & Safety.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing reports; and maintaining industrial hygiene (IH) equipment, evaluating existing health hazards, recommending corrective or preventive measures, performing respirator fit testing, performing minor repairs of equipment and the maintenance of associated records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Environmental Science, or related fields such as Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or Health & Safety.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes inspecting work areas, conducting surveys, analyzing findings, preparing reports, maintaining industrial hygiene equipment, and assisting with worker education training, performing sampling using standard methods to establish the nature and degree of hazards and industrial products, conducting surveys and investigations of work operations, identifying and evaluating conditions which may be hazardous to the health or workers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in Environmental Science, or related fields such as Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or Health & Safety.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
