About the Position: The primary purpose of the position is to maintain and repair a variety of target devices and equipment. A variety of other work is performed to include Motor Vehicle Operator, Tools and Parts Attendant, and Laborer.

Duties

Set and adjust proper function and switch settings. Ensure continual operation of systems to facilitate uninterrupted unit training. Maintain target pits, bunkers and berms by clearing weeds, picking up debris, etc. Install, connect and check all equipment prior to use by units for training. Perform maintenance on vehicles and prepares required records. Receive, identify, store, exchange and/or issue materials, repair parts and tools to maintenance personnel and using units to support Range maintenance and use.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Requires to obtain and maintain a current State driver's license, must be able to operate both a four-wheeled drive vehicle with standard transmission and an off-road all terrain vehicle. work requires driving hazardous roads and terrain.
  • This position involves working with or in close proximity to explosives or incendiary material in an environment where munitions training is being conducted, or in close proximity of unexploded ordinance.
  • This position requires to work irregular duty hours, this may be required to rotate between major training areas to include shift work, rotating shifts and weekend/ holiday work and overtime may be required.
  • This position requires heavy lifting up to 70 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Work involves recurring physical exertion, including prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending during site inspection and firings and moderate lifting and carrying. Requires frequent exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain access to the Fort Bliss LAN.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping and climbing. Working Conditions: Performs maintenance and repair work on firing ranges in all types of weather. The work requires knowledge and application of and strict adherence to work procedures and safety precautions to avoid potential hazards of high pressure lines and high voltage lines in the Armor Moving Target Carrier (AMTC). Work subjects the employee to the possibility of cuts, bruises, electric shock, broken bones, skin irritation, burns and insect, reptile and rodent bites. Wears protective clothing and uses safety equipment (e.g., safety shoes, hard hat, eye/face/ear protection, etc.). Work may also expose the employee to the hazards of unexploded live rounds (duds), explosive simulator devices (flash, steel on steel, and smoke pyrotechnics).
