This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DIB & MRTFB in DOD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is located within the Directorate of Industrial Operations, Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
Duties
Utilize pattern design to apply camouflage patterns to equipment.
Prepare and inspect surfaces ensuring preparation for painting.
Read technical manuals to determine types, color and various markings on mechanical/electronic equipment.
Maintain spray guns, nozzles, and restrictors based on painting assignments.
Advise employees on proper painting procedures such as blending, thinning, flattening, and/or mixing.
Apply safety requirements as required by manufacturers' instructions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Must be willing to undergo a Physical Examination initially and annually thereafter.
- Must be willing to obtain a certification in the respiratory protection program.
- Must be willing to participate in shift work.
- Must be willing to complete a one year probationary period.
- Must have a valid driver's license.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Painter duties such as spray-painting vehicles, using various coating types and products and applying chemical compounded paint. I can operate and maintain spray-painting equipment and interpret technical manuals to determine markings on equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
Physical Effort:
Work assignments require heavy lifting and carrying of 40 lbs. and over. There is frequent use of fingers and reaching above shoulders height. Work is performed in walking, standing, kneeling positions with repeated bending occasionally. Climbing is required with use of arms and both legs.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed inside and occasionally outside in hot, cold, humid, damp or chilling or dry atmosphere conditions. Exposed to constant noise, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, solvents, grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy. Works on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, around objects and on vehicles, and ladders. Works closely with others or alone. Safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves and protective clothing, and respiratory protection are required.
