This position is located at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, TX.

Duties

This is a bargaining unit position. This position is represented by AFGE. Please note that as provided for in the AFGE/VA Master Agreement the FIRST area of consideration for this position will be permanent employees of the local facility in which this position is being filled, the SECOND area of consideration will be employees at other VA facilities, and the THIRD area of consideration will be all other eligibles. Performs work involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of water mains, lateral lines, pipelinesand auxiliary equipment for water flowing system. Read and interprets work plans and layout work, utilizing blueprints or layout sketches; determines tools required and estimates necessary materials such as pipe fittings in the sizes, types or lengths needed. Installs, repairs, maintains and replaces pipelines, valves, storage tanks, and expansion joints. Performs or directs cutting, bending, grooving, threading, assembling and repairing of pipes, fitting, clips and valves. Maintains records of time and materials used on jobs and completes job orders. Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers and of several types of pumps and pumping systems. Performs tasks regarding the irrigation system in the cemetery, including leaks in distribution lines, valves risers, repairs control lines and sprinkler heads. Maintains and repairs the master valves and satellite controllers. Operates and maintains the well and pumping station. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement,07/28/2023. Your background must demonstrate work involved in the full range of building and maintenance trades to include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, pest control, asphalt repairs, etc. This includes repair and preventive maintenance of irrigation systems, maintaining and repairing buildings and physical structures, facilities, and utilities using hand and power tools. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Physical Requirements: Requires prolonged and frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping and pulling. Climbs ladders and lifts objects weighing over fifty (50) pounds. Must have a full range of upper and lower extremities. Moderate effort required in operating vehicles and tools of the trade. Stamina, dexterity, and perseverance required in all aspects of incumbent's duties. Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Incumbent is subject to discomfort when working in unnatural positions for longer periods in all types of weather. Must work under stress and strain in dust, dirt, mud and water. Incumbent works with reclaimed water provided by the San Antonio Water System. Incumbent may be exposed to occupational injuries, such as cuts, scrapes, bruises, shock and dust from sawing materials, as well as other potential hazards working with machinery, saws, and electrical test equipment while performing duties in this position.
