Duties
You will manufacture, modify, and repair parts, tools, and complete items of equipment from raw stock of different kinds of metals, metal alloys and other materials.
You will plan and lay out work from blueprints, drawings and sketches, work orders, model of parts to be made, or other specifications.
You will study and interpret drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances of finished work pieces sequence of operations, and set up requirements.
You will determine work procedures, machines, tools, equipment and attachments to be used; proper type and size of raw stock needed; machine speeds and feeds necessary to attain required finishes and tolerances.
You will program Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machines and set up and operate conventional machine tools.
You will maintain equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Work requires standing, stooping, bending and reaching.
- Frequently works with small, light items not in excess of 10 pounds, but occasionally handles larger items which may weigh up to 40 pounds.
- Hoists, hand trucks, lifts and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. The work requires close eye and hand coordination.
- Work requires the employee to drive a vehicle.
- Misuse of Government IT systems is cause for disciplinary action, including removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to use machine tools (i.e Drill press, lathe, milling machine); operating automatic machines having self-regulated devices which prevent damage to machines, work, or tools; operating to produce parts, replacing new tools into original positions, adjusting safety devices, clutches, collets, spindle carriers, etc.; and, setting up and operating with the involvement of a number of tools and devices such as form tools, cutting tools, die heads, taper and special attachments, index heads, etc.
