You will serve as an Interdisciplinary - Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist. One position will be filled at each of the following locations: Redwood National Park, Orick, CA Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, Thousand Oaks, California Open to the first 101 applicants or until 07/19/2023 whichever comes first. Duties

Some of the duties you will perform include, but are not limited to: Design, develop and manage GIS and relational databases. Create, communicate, and implement data documentation and distribution procedures and workflows. Create and manage feature and mapping services published to ArcGIS Server, Portal, and ArcGIS Online. Integrate a variety of standard GIS and database management software and tools to meet park needs. Share GIS data as geospatial data services and create web mapping applications displaying GIS data. Design and develop field data collection applications, spatial data inventories, and cross linkages to ensure software and data structure compatibility. Provide technical support and training in a wide variety of GIS and GPS applications to users with varying skill and knowledge levels. Assist with maintaining GIS-related hardware, peripherals, GPS equipment, and software. Use integrating computer models and other tools and scientific and resources management knowledge to query, analyze and summarize geospatial and related data in support of park operations and management. Report on analytical procedures and outcomes via maps, reports, tables and presentations designed for varied audiences. Maintain documents, maps, electronic files, records according to park and NPS guidelines and policies. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. Promotion to the full performance level is neither guaranteed nor implied and will be based solely on your ability to satisfactorily perform the work of the position, existing work at the higher grade level, and recommendation by the position's supervisor. Some specific park information and requirements are listed below: Redwood National Park, Orick, CA: This position will be filled at the GS-11 level and is subject to non-pay. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately January to October, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year. You will be a part of a 3-person team that operates a Geographic Information System (GIS), manages files and records, and operates an intranet at Redwood National Park staff. The park uses ESRI Enterprise SDE software running on Microsoft SQL Server. The park operates 3 GIS file servers and embraces a virtualized environment focused on remote desktop. There may be occasional travel required for training and in support of work at Channel Islands National Park and Cabrillo National Monument. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. As the park GIS specialist, you will manage and coordinate the park's GIS program, providing park-wide GIS support primarily using the ESRI suite of desktop and online applications. Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by 11:59 EST when the 'applicant cut-off' is reached (which may be sooner than 07/19/2023). Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. You must meet at least ONE of the following BASIC EDUCATION requirements PLUS minimum qualifications. BASIC EDUCATION - Geographer, GS-0150. Successful completion of a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields. You must provide transcripts. -OR- A combination of education and experience, which includes courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must provide transcripts. BASIC EDUCATION - Biologist, GS-0401. Successful completion of a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. You must provide transcripts. -OR- A combination of education and experience, which includes courses equivalent to a major as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must provide transcripts. BASIC EDUCATION - Physical Scientist, GS-1301. Successful completion of a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials or electronics. You must provide transcripts. -OR- A combination of education and experience, which includes courses equivalent to one of the majors as shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must provide transcripts. BASIC EDUCATION - Cartographer, GS-1370. Successful completion of a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in cartography or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites). You must provide transcripts. -OR- A combination of education and experience, which includes courses equivalent to one of the majors as shown above that included at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must provide transcripts. - AND - GS-09: You must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include all three elements: (1) designing and maintaining GIS databases; (2) creating geospatial data and maps following established guidelines; and (3) integrating a wide range of data topics (biological, physical, or cultural) into tabular and spatial formats. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a Master's (or equivalent) or two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited university with major study that is directly related to the position. You must include transcripts.-OR- Successful completion of a COMBINATION of education and experience as described above. Note: only graduate education in excess of 1 year is creditable. To combine education and experience, first divide your total months of qualifying specialized experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond one year (18 semester hours) by 18. Add the two percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. AND/OR GS-11: You must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include all four elements: (1) using GIS and GPS software and technology to provide technical support in the creation and maintenance of geospatial and relational databases; (2) training others in the use of GIS and GPS applications; (3) creating geospatial data and maps following established guidelines; and (4) developing, updating, and managing web map services. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree in a directly related field. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a COMBINATION of education and experience as described above. Note: only graduate education in excess of second year (or masters level) is creditable. To combine education and experience, first divide your total months of qualifying specialized experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond two years (36 semester hours) by 18. Add the two percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
