The employee serves as the Laundry Machine Operator/Washman charged with overall operation and daily start up activities of the Textile Care Processing Facility (TCPF) located in the Textile Care Section of Environmental Management Service at the VA Medical Center located in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Duties
Duties include but may not be limited to:
Operates commercial-type dryer/tumblers, washer extractors, Continuous Batch Washer (CBW) and other associated production equipment.
Receives, weighs and records bulk soiled linen from both hospitals and other facilities.
Sorts soiled linen using the automated carts wash system.
Places soiled linen on the overhead rail system by using the electric controls on the lift station.
Applies knowledge of various fabrics, wash formulas, temperatures, washing times, and micro-computer operated washer/extractors to produce clean and sanitized laundry.
Performs spotting procedures to remove stains utilizing a variety of specialty chemicals.
Maintains written records of work productivity, chemicals usage, and incoming weights for reporting purposes.
Trains other machine operators in the correct procedures of washer/extractors machine operation and washing formulary and use.
Understands and applies verbal and written instructions pertaining to all phases of washroom techniques.
Communicates with other machine operators, laundry work leaders, Linen Clerk, and Laundry Supervisor, to ensure efficient linen flow on the production floor, responding to changing linen requirements as necessary.
Ensures laundry equipment is operational by performing inspections to verify malfunctions, breakdowns and reports necessary repairs to upper management.
Serves as a back-up to the Linen Clerk and Truck Driver if needed, (must have license if filling in for the truck driver).
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Resume(s) must demonstrate that you have performed Laundry/Laundry sorting duties.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Employee needs strength and stamina for performing heavy task for long periods of time. Employee must be able to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to stand and walk consistently, perform light to moderate bending and stooping, and able to wear PPE for extended period as dictated by the work setting. Some heavy movement of laundry carts weighing up to 700 pounds and use conveyors are required. During normal day to day operations, individual will be required to perform simple grasping and fine hand manipulation, reaching above shoulder height and frequent stooping, bending, twisting and kneeling. Position routinely requires the individual to operate vehicles, electrical equipment and push or pull soiled and clean linen carts in and out of laundry truck, to and from loading docks to various locations within the Textile Care Processing Facility (TCPF) and the medical center.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed inside where there is ample light, heat and/or ventilation. Temperatures vary form hot in the summer to cold in the winter when moving carts into the TCPF. Employee is intermittently exposed to possible contagions form the handling of contaminated linens in performance of emptying laundry bags and sorting soiled linen. Potential exists for sharps exposure in soiled linen. Employee will be subjected to high humidity, noise and minor cuts and bruises from arts and machinery. Employee will be exposed to drafts form open doors and lint in the air. Employee will wear gown, mask, cap, shoe covers and gloves when working in the soiled linen sorting section. Is subjected to disagreeable odors and contamination associated with handling and processing of soiled linens and clothing.
