This position is located in the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area at the Salem, VA. Assignments include but are not limited to: scanning, bar coding, receiving, storing, and the distribution of medical and surgical supplies, instruments, and other material. The work requires knowledge of applicable policies and procedures.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include:
- Pulls stock inventory and material for delivery; replenishes stock inventory; interacts with clinical and administrative customers and maintains records on stock levels;
- Communicates to the Lead or Supervisor any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures.
- Provides information to customers regarding medical supplies;
- Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates;
- Monitors and controls critical supplies;
- Performs daily inventory using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment;
- Resolves differences between records and physical count of stock;
- Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized inventory management systems;
- Delivers supplies in a timely manner and ensures supplies and material delivered are in sterile and operational condition;
Completes specialty cart preparation;
- Cleans assigned secondary areas in accordance with aseptic principles;
- Receives supplies and material into the medical center's catchment area.
Work Schedule: Thursday - Monday 7:45 am to 4:30 pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/01/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS 4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing supplies and material to clinical and administrative areas of a complex health care facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing medical and surgical supplies, instruments and other material; pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels; monitoring expiration dates; cleaning assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; utilizing an automated system to maintain inventory; and answers customer questions regarding supplies and materials. Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years beyond high school. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 2 years of high school.

Physical Requirements: The work required standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds.) With the proper assistance, moves heavier items weighing over 40 pounds. This level of physical demand occurs, for example, when employees are regularly assigned to activities such as tracing misplaced items or conducting physical inventories in warehouses, and other storage areas, or when they are regularly involved in stocking and retrieving items from shelves and cabinets.
