Applications after first cutoff will receive consideration as future vacancies occur. *** This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce. About the Position: You will perform a variety of labor type duties in support of the operation and maintenance of recreation facilities and areas.

Duties

Operates equipment such as chain saws, jack hammers, compactors, heavy power mowers, power trimmers, power edgers, powered weed-eaters and large electric drills. Performs as a flagman directing traffic and guiding dump trucks to the work site. Clears brush using machetes, brush hooks, pruning shears and axes. Assists in laying out work sites by driving stakes, holding tapes, lines, chains and rods. Performs daily and scheduled maintenance of park facilities and grounds of recreation areas.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided, and its use required.
  • Must be willing and able work rotating shifts to include evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Pre-employment and annual audiogram is required.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a LABORER without more than normal supervision. Must have the ability to perform common manual laboring tasks associated with grounds and facilities maintenance after being instructed on what is to be done and how to do the task. Must have ability to operate equipment such as power mowers, power trimmers, power edgers, powered weed-eaters and/or related hand tools to perform grounds maintenance work. Must have the ability to lift or move loads such as moving heavy loads of dirt, cement or asphalt pushing a wheelbarrow. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: The incumbent exerts very heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as frequently lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, running power mowers on grades or pushing heavy wheelbarrow loads. Working Conditions: Works outside in all kinds of weather, and inside in areas that may be dusty, drafty, and noisy. The equipment, tools, and tasks involved frequently require special care to avoid serious injuries.
