This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Pharmacy Supervisor - (Acute Care Clinical Pharmacy Services) works in the pharmacy care line and manages programs and supervises clinical pharmacist practitioners in assigned areas at the Michael E. DeBakey VAMC. The duties of the Pharmacy Supervisor-Acute Care Clinical Pharmacy Services include, but are not limited to: Manages and supervises inpatient and outpatient clinical areas to include but not limited to efficient delivery of comprehensive medication management in a patient-centered approach to optimize medication use and improve patient health outcomes Serves as a provider within a scope of practice in the assigned clinical areas of oversight Oversees activities where the incumbent has authority over the work which requires coordination and integration of work assignments with the other subsections and service lines Establishes work schedules and allocates staff as needed to provide adequate coverage Monitors productivity and quality assurance utilizing software, population health tools, dashboards, and reports Conducts appraisals as well as develops and issues performance standards that are realistic, challenging and support the organizational mission, vision, and goals in accordance with departmental and MEDVAMC guidelines Ensures employees meet all mandatory requirements for training as mandated by department and/or medical center Effectively manages personnel and works towards resolving all labor relations issues Develops and revises policies and procedures that pertain to pharmacy services Works collaboratively with other supervisors and pharmacy administrative team members to meet strategic goals and mission of the MEDVAMC Plans, develops, implements, coordinates, evaluates, and may conduct regular formal and informal pharmacy training and education of clinical pharmacy practitioners, clinical pharmacists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, nursing, medical and allied health care professional staff and students Acts as pharmacy service representative to local, VISN and/or National committees as assigned by pharmacy leadership Serves in an advisory capacity to the Chief/Associate Chief on matters related to respective clinical pharmacy programs Provides coverage to other pharmacy administrative areas as needed Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm or 8:00am-4:30pm (Tour may be adjusted to meet agency needs) Telework: Available - As determined by the agency Virtual: This is not a virtual position. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.g. Education: (a) Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.Verification of approved degree programs may be obtained from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, 20 North Clark Street, Suite 2500, Chicago, Illinois 60602-5109; phone: (312) 664-3575, or through their Web site at: http://www.acpe-accredit.org/.(NOTE: Prior to 2005 ACPE accredited both baccalaureate and Doctor of Pharmacy terminal degree program. Today the sole degree is Doctor of Pharmacy.) (b) Foreign degrees: Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT). Licensure: Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. The pharmacist must maintain current registration if this is a requirement for maintaining full, current, and unrestricted licensure. A pharmacist who has, or has ever had, any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, section B, paragraph 16. NOTE: Individuals who have or have had multiple licenses and had any such license revoked for professional misconduct, professional incompetence or substandard care, or who surrendered such license after receiving written notice of potential termination of such license by the State for professional misconduct, professional incompetence, or substandard care, are not eligible for appointment to the position unless such revoked or surrendered license is fully restored (38 U.S.C. 7402(f)). Effective November 30, 1999, this is a requirement for employment. This requirement does not apply to licensed pharmacists on VA rolls as of that date, provided they maintain continuous appointment and are not disqualified for employment by any subsequent revocations or voluntary surrenders of State license, registration or certification. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). GRADE DETERMINATION: Pharmacy Supervisor, GS-13 (a) Experience. In addition to the GS-12 requirements, must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. (b) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA). Pharmacists assigned to this position must demonstrate the following KSAs: Ability to effectively supervise subordinate staff. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards pertaining to pharmacy. Skill in managing people or programs. References: VA Handbook 5005/55, Part II, Appendix G15, Licensed Pharmacist Qualification Standard, dated June 7, 2012. Preferred experience: Two years of supervisory work experience and/or training program Completion of a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and /or PGY-2 Pharmacy Practice Residency training directly related to position or equivalent experience Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification related to position. Three years direct patient care experience within an acute care setting Experience with residency/teaching programs Actively involved in committees or work groups at the local, VISN and/or National level that directly relate to the position The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13. Physical Requirements: Work is sedentary but also demands standing, walking, bending, twisting, and carrying light items.
