About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Emergency Services, Police/Provost Marshall Division, Physical Security Branch at Hunter Army Airfield, Savannah, GA.

Duties

Make decisions according to the nature of perceived threat, as from demonstrators or other organized subversive actions, by the nature of hazards imposed by local terrain and the ability to observe or pursue violators. Support the implementation of emergency plans, and the patrolling of restricted and limited access areas. Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work. Prepare management reports as required, administers the annual and sick leave program, approves leave, stimulates management-employee communications, and maintains good employee morale and discipline. Brief the guard force on enforcing the applicable federal, state, and local laws to include special/general orders, policies and regulations. Communicate with the guard force to ensure understanding in their immediate role in protection of government and personal property, access of personnel and vehicles to the installation. Detain violators of laws, rules, and regulations and turn them over to Federal or civil police or other law enforcement officers for arrest. Responsible for the use of deadly force; the enforcement of appropriate laws as they apply to jurisdictional areas within the installation. Perform a diverse range of protective responsibilities over Federal property, employees, and visitors.

Requirements

  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier 3 background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • IAW AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. A Pre-employment and subsequent random drug testing is required.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • A pre-employment medical exam is required. Incumbent must also undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT).
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability.
  • Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Temporary Duty travel (TDY) may be required up to 25%.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.
