The CTVHCS is recruiting for a highly qualified Laundry Supervisor for Environmental Management Service (EMS) located in Waco, Texas. Incumbent is assigned to the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System of VISN 17, Heart of Texas Health Care Network. Incumbent serves as the Textile Care Supervisor for Environmental Management Service.

Duties

Duties include, but not limited to: The incumbent's position is that of Textile Care Supervisor in Environmental Management Service. Incumbent plans and drafts duty schedules approves, and schedules vacation leave up to 10 days, and all other types of leave as authorized. Incumbent assists the Textile Care Manager in the overall laundry and linen programs. Incumbent plans use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on an on-going basis. Incumbent establishes deadlines, priorities, and work sequences and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies. This includes administration, supervision, and direction of the laundry, linen, and Patient Effects sections. Determines the number of workers needed to accomplish specific projects. Incumbent redirects individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work. Incumbent has full supervisory responsibility for control over work situations and subordinates. Incumbent is responsible on a daily, scheduled rotating basis for approximately 32 Laundry and Linen workers and an average of three Incentive Therapy patients/Compensated Work Therapy assigned to the Laundry Section. Plans work schedules, establishes deadlines, sequences, and priorities of work. Incumbent is responsible for planning work operations of assigned personnel, determining the number of employees needed, the sequence, priority, and time for performance of work operations within broad work schedules and time limits based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors. Incumbent informs higher level supervisors in the initial planning of current and future work schedules, budget requests, staffing needs, estimates, and recommendations as to scheduling projected work. Incumbent is responsible for supervision of a variety of markedly dissimilar work functions and areas.Responsible for investigating work related problems to determine causes; recommends corrective actions and requirements or solutions to problems. This consolidated institutional-type laundry provides centralized service to a patient bed census of approximately 2,600 located at the Temple and Waco Facilities. In addition, service is provided in laundering linen and uniforms for Mental Hygiene Clinic, Community Living Center, for Canteens and Barber Shops at the Temple and Waco Facilities'. Uniforms are laundered for approximately 1,400 employees. Because of the high proportion of non-bed patients at the Waco Facility and Domiciliary patients at the Temple Facility approximately 18% of the workload involves wearing apparel consisting of uniforms and patient clothing. The patient either owns their own clothing or it is furnished to them as individuals. To ensure prompt return to the owner/user, the identity of each item of clothing must be maintained throughout the laundering process and the quality of work is comparable to that of work done by commercial laundries.The CTVHCS operates 1,274 authorized beds. The mission includes surgical, acute medical care, extended care to include nursing home care, a domiciliary, emergency room (urgent care), surgical intensive care unit, medical intensive care unit, MRI, research long term care, extended care, Temple and Waco sites, and psychiatry to Austin, Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCSs) in Brownwood, Palestine, and Bryan/College Station and a Department of Defense Hospital outside account A total of approximately 3.5 million pounds is processed and a revenue generation from the Department of Defense in excess of $100,000 annually. Incumbent investigates work-related problems such as excessive cost or low productivity and determines causes. Incumbent Implements corrective actions within incumbent's authority to resolve work problems. Incumbent defines standards of quality and quantity for the employees. Reviews work while in progress or upon completion to determine rate of progress and whether work performed meet an acceptable level of productivity and quality. He/she analyzes the performance of marginal employees to determine if weakness is related to improper sequence of tasks, improper frequency, faulty utilization of equipment, supplies, or lack of training, etc. Incumbent shifts or reassigns personnel as required to obtain maximum utilization of knowledge and skills. Incumbent establishes deadlines and priorities, especially when short staffed, to provide optimum effectiveness within the limits of available personnel. Physical Requirements: Receives, segregates and prepares processed laundry for issuing; classifies and segregates items of laundry into groups according to standard laundry formula and finishing process to be used. Involves working around machines and some heavy lifting involved. Heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over; pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulders; Use of fingers and both hands; Walking and Standing more than 7.5 hours; Climbing, repeated bending, and kneeling. Working Conditions: Excessive humidity, constant noise, dust; working with hands in water, use of solvents, grease, and oils; Working around machinery with moving parts, objects, and/or vehicles; Slippery and uneven walking surfaces, working alone and with others.
