This Direct-Hire position is located in the Office of Regulatory Science (ORS), Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The incumbent serves as an analytical instrumentation specialist within an ORS Laboratory where s/he is recognized as the expert, technical authority, and resource person in this specialization.

Duties

Serves as an analytical instrumentation specialist within an ORS Laboratory that is recognized as the expert, technical authority, and resource person in this specialization, including instrumentation listed below. Examples of highly technical instrumentation include but are not limited to Mass Spectrometry, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry, Electron Microscopy or Liquid Chromatography with Tandem Mass Spectrometry Organizes and presents seminars and training sessions on specialized chemistry instrumentation and technical areas. Assists the supervisor to identify and eliminate unsafe conditions. Serves as a technical expert and scientific advisor in the specialty area of chemistry instrumentation.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements The applicant must possess the following: A. Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. NOTE: Applicants must submit all relevant transcripts that demonstrate you possess the required education to meet the Basic Qualifications. Minimum Qualifications: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience , or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations. GS-13: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12, in the Federal service, which includes: serving as an analytical instrumentation specialist; analyzing test information to determine chemistry instrumentation operating efficiency or to diagnose malfunctions; serving as a technical authority to assure quality and regulatory requirements; and providing training on specialized chemistry instrumentation and technical areas specifically related to analytical methods and research. FOREIGN EDUCATION
