This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at Presidio of Monterey, California Medical Detachment.

Duties

Conduct comprehensive and complex risk assessments, clinical interviews, and psychosocial assessment of children and adults. Make treatment recommendations to the multi-disciplinary Family Advocacy Program Case Review Committee team. Obtain relevant data from various agencies to compile information and present for a determination of abuse or neglect to the Family Advocacy Program Case Review Committee. Analyze the information and use professional judgment concerning difficult decisions that may have serious consequences to the child or the family. Provide therapeutic treatment to victims, offenders and family members of those involved in domestic violence or child abuse or neglect. Conducts individual, family and group outpatient therapy sessions. Uses Automation systems which include Combined Health Care Systems (CHCS) and Allied Health Longitudinal Technology Application AHLTA. Uses knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, procedures and practices related to the FAP develop and formulate formal and informal technical curriculum for training and or treatment plans.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Pre-employment physical examination is required.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption
  • Position requires a current valid unrestricted license to practice clinical social work.
  • This position may require the incumbent to share work on-call, after normally scheduled work hours.
  • May be required to testify before agencies and/or in court.
  • Incumbent is subject to Central Registry Check (DoD Child and Domestic abuse reporting system)
  • Must possess current, valid stateside driver's license.
  • TDY Business travel is required 5% of the time.
  • As part of pre-employment process, employee must provide updated / current immunization records.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Family Advocacy) Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience applying a professional knowledge of social work practices, principles, theories and administrative requirements to be able to apply them in a clinical setting. Conduct a comprehensive risk assessment by interviewing and assessing victims, offenders and family members. Compile data and information to present and determine an individualized treatment plan and family safety plan and; perform crisis intervention and assist to provide protection and safety for victims. Apply knowledge of administration, scoring and interpretation of select psycho-social measures to properly assess patient's and family's needs. Experience applying an understanding of behavioral risk management and ability to engage appropriate protections as needed when risk of harm to self or others is present. Providing guidance and consultation services to medical professionals and military leaders and facilitate referrals to military or community based human service agencies and resources. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Selective Placement Factor: This position requires 2 years of experience working in the field of child abuse and domestic abuse. Basic Life Support (BLS): this position requires BLS certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). A copy must be uploaded as part of your application package. Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. A copy must be uploaded as part of your application package. Time in Grade: Time in grade does not apply because this is a DoD DHA solicitation and subsequent appointments result in a new federal civil service appointment.
