About the Position: This position is with the 99th Readiness Division, Safety Office located at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Duties

Evaluate the organization's safety and occupational health program. Determine effectiveness of the safety and occupational health program. Conduct site visits to determine potential safety hazards. Prepare written reports of investigations. Recommend corrective measures to eliminate unsafe work practices. Survey, inspect, and certify outdoor firing ranges. Advise on safety policies and procedures. Review and implement safety campaigns. Investigate and report accidents.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires completion of Army Career Programs (CP) 12 Skill Level-I within 12 months of employment.
  • This position requires a physical examination prior to employment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing a safety or occupational health program; developing and recommending safety and occupational health programs or policies to higher level officials; interpreting, applying and/or developing safety and occupational health laws, regulations, policies, procedures or standards; evaluating existing safety programs; inspecting workplaces to determine possible hazards; applying safety and occupational health knowledge to reduce or control hazards; and conducting safety training. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Safety and HealthSafety and Occupational Health (SOH) Hazard ControlWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
