Duties

Performs developmental assignments consisting of a series of specific and related tasks. Under close supervision, learns to perform the more advanced work of the trade or craft as a means of developing trade skills and gaining knowledge of the trade. Uses and accounts for all power tools and equipment and a variety of common hand tools. Performs shop support work. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118, METAL STRUCTURE MECHANIC HELPER (FWS-3801-05) and METAL STRUCTURE MECHANIC(FWS-3801-08/10). QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (includes constructing repair, and forging) 2. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading) 3. Layout and Pattern Development (includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation) 4. Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal Work 5. Dexterity (Assembly, Disassembly, Reassembly, and ect) "This position is a developmental (WG-05 Target WG-10) position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the (WG-05). Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. This position may be subject to a formalized training program and pay retention of 150% of the maximum rate of the basic pay is authorized for candidates requesting a Voluntary Change to lower Grade.
