About the Position: This position is located within the Logistics Readiness Center, at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Fort Wood is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The Fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is located in Pulaski County. Bordering the installation to the north are the towns of Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44. St. Louis is a two hour drive to the east along I-44 and Springfield is a little more than an hour's drive to the west of Ft. Leonard Wood.

Duties

Perform diagnose, adjust and repair on a variety of industrial equipment. Determine trouble, disassemble, repair by replacing or fabricating parts and reassemble, making operational tests and adjustments as necessary. Service and repair a variety of Powered Support Systems such as but not limited to mobile or fixed equipment that have items such as generators, gas or diesel engines, compressors, pumps, turbochargers, alternators, voltage regulators, etc. Service equipment and machines beyond the scope of operator's maintenance by cleaning, oiling, greasing, tightening and adjusting parts, hoses, belts, lines and other assemblies etc. Connect/disconnect items such as air, water, hydraulic, vacuum lines, gages, electrical wiring and cables, electric motors and controls and other items or accessories as required.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is subject to a medical clearance examination prior to employment. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
  • Incumbent is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hearing protection, eye protection, respirator, safety shoes, gloves and other safety equipment as dictated by work assignments.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid government motor vehicle operators license authorizing the operation of vehicles and equipment of the type
  • and capacities determined by the supervisor as necessary for accomplishment of the duties of the position once onboard.
  • Must obtain and maintain a forklift license within 6 months of employment.

I can 1) perform preventive maintenance on a variety of powered support equipment; 2) select which tools are best for each job; 3) replace defective or worn parts and components on a variety of equipment such as: engines, generators, alternators, gears, and compressors; 4) repair or replace hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical components on the following types of equipment: firefighting equipment, power generating systems, air conditioning, heating, lighting and power multi-systems, decontamination equipment, and other special purpose equipment; and 5) use technical manuals, manufacturer's manuals, schematics, blueprints and drawings. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Industrial Equipment Repairer Duties: Work requires standing, bending, climbing, and occasionally working in uncomfortable positions. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 40 to 50 pounds. b. Powered Support Systems Repairer Duties: Performs work, which involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing and arm movement. Sometimes works in awkward positions or cramped areas. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to about 40 pounds and lifts heavier items using jacks, hoists, or helpers. WORKING CONDITIONS a. Industrial Equipment Repairer Duties: Work is performed mostly inside in a controlled environment. Work areas may be noisy, hot, cold, damp, drafty or poorly lighted. Sometimes works outside exposed to the elements. The work may be dirty, dusty, and greasy and the employee is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, strains and electrical shock. Position requires the incumbent to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hearing protection, eye protection, respirator, safety shoes, goggles, and gloves. b. Powered Support Systems Repairer Duties: Work may be accomplished in a shop setting or in the field and be exposed to the elements. The work may be dirty, dusty, and greasy making equipment dangerous to operate or repair. The employee is frequently exposed to the possibility of loud noises, fumes, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, strains and electrical shock. Position requires the incumbent to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hearing protection, eye protection, respirator, safety shoes, goggles, and gloves. c. Frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, lubricants, solvents, adhesives, etc. To mitigate against the dangers and irritations from above conditions, Incumbent is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hearing protection, eye protection, respirator, safety shoes, gloves and other safety equipment as dictated by work assignments.
