About the Position: The office maintains full responsibility to develop Health care related requirements and projects. It is a team environment which includes internal and external customers. It is a people oriented environment that demands excellence in customer service. Flexibility is required to keep pace with shifting command priorities. Ensures projects are completed in a timely, efficient, and cost effective manner.

Duties

Applies latest technological advances relating to the specialization; and analyzes and evaluates designs, proposals and ideas submitted by others. Determines that all data needed for production is provided in accordance with appropriate design and drafting standards. Prepare cost estimates for engineering projects. Responsible for fire and life safety systems in a medical treatment facility and the outlying buildings. Develops and updates policy that will keep the facilities accredited at all times. Monitors performance of contractor and government hospital maintenance procedures for compliance. Research technical manuals, fire codes or trade reference books to determine appropriate codes for fire and life safety system. Provide guidance to staff regarding technical matters for on-going engineering projects. Write instructions for the operating, maintenance and calibration of equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is defined as: validate engineering projects, develop scope of work and estimate project costs. Applies quality assurance standards during inspections on facilities maintenance contracts (to include utilities). Interprets codes and regulations, (primarily fire and life safety codes) applying them to existing conditions in the medical treatment facility. Technically proficient in all aspects of Life Safety, Electrical and Mechanical that are specific to a Medical Treatment Facility. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10). Individual Occupational Requirement: Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:- Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.- Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: DesignOral CommunicationProject ManagementQuality Assurance Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-10).
