This is a Direct Hire Authority solicitation utilizing the DHA for for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Applications will be accepted through 1/12/24. Announcement MAY CLOSE EARLIER if all available vacancies have been filled prior to 1/12/24. The 1st Cut-Off for receipt & referral of applicants to be considered for vacant positions will be 7/26/23. Afterward, referrals will be pulled as vacancies occur.
Duties
The incumbent will serve as a senior architect in the Engineering Division, Design Branch, General Engineering Section, and will perform the following duties:
Perform architectural design as part of the multi-disciplinary approach for a complete and coordinated design development for assigned projects.
Coordinate work with other supporting disciplines on such projects.
Develop general and detailed drawings, design analyses, computations and calculations, and technical specifications for architectural features of assigned design projects.
Produce construction documents utilizing collaborative design programs such as Revit and AutoCAD.
Support sustainable design initiatives and become advocate for sustainable and resilient design of all projects.
Develop architectural and supporting portions scope of work and technical design guidance for design build RFP development.
Perform field work to evaluate project existing conditions and develop/confirm as-built documentation.
Meet with customers as requested to identify needs and expectations, provide responsible alternatives, and clarify design requirements of projects.
Translate ideas and general or specific criteria into aesthetic, functional and practical designs.
Perform technical review of designs prepared by Architect-Engineer (A-E) contractors or in-house staff for conformance with project criteria, regulations, and applicable codes and in accordance with District Design Quality Assurance policies.
Provide technical oversight and direction to A-Es providing architectural design services to the District.
Provide architectural review of shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs for projects under construction.
Participate and is actively involved in managing and leading technical aspects of projects.
Engage in Corps wide architectural center of expertise group and participate in district quality control process.
Provide input to Technical Leads, Project Managers, Section Chief, and customers on project scope, time, cost and quality issues as required to ensure project objectives and customer expectations are met.
Serve as Technical Lead on projects as necessary.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Registration as a Professional Architect is required within 12 months of appointment.
- A valid State Driver's license is required for this position within 30 days of employment. Incumbent must obtain/maintain a valid state driver's license for duration of employment in order to travel to project meetings and work sites.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Basic Requirement for Architect:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in architecture or in a related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following: (1) Related Curriculum - Degree in architectural engineering provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in statement A above, or (2) Experience: 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of any college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that you have acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
GS-12: One year of specialized experience which includes meeting all of the following: (1) experience developing detailed architectural reports, plans, and specifications for new construction, renovation, or rehabilitation projects; and (2) experience reviewing architectural reports, plans, and specifications for commercial or government clients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11) or equivalent grade level.
