About the Position: Position may be filled as a temporary promotion or temporary reassignment not to exceed five years by a current permanent Army employee. Temporary promotions or reassignments may be extended up to a maximum of five years and may be made permanent without further competition.
Position may be filled as a temporary appointment not to exceed three years, if candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of 3 years.
Duties
Manage shipments of all commodities to include hazardous materials, dangerous goods and special security risk materials of all sizes and weights.
Review material characteristics such as size, weights, shape, packing requirements, compatibility for consolidation and palletization requirements in order to determine the mode for transportation.
Operate an electronic typewriter, word processor or computer terminal to prepare reports.
Provide supervisor with backup information related to traffic management functions.
Requirements
- Must obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Determining methods of shipment for freight covered by several codes, supply categories, and special requirements; 2) Preparing final copy forms by filling in the appropriate information such as carrier, route, destination, and control number; AND 3) Utilizing various automated systems to analyze and prepare reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
