The Suicide Prevention Coordinator is a Social Worker who will serve to facilitate implementation of suicide prevention strategies to help ensure that all appropriate measures are taken to prevent suicide in our veteran population.
Duties
The primary responsibilities of the Suicide Prevention Coordinator include monitoring a list of veterans determined to be at high risk for self-harm and coordinating enhanced care when needed, providing education to all front line and clinical staff regarding risk factors and protective factors for suicide, educating clinical staff regarding safety planning with their patients, networking with community partners, and assisting with timely and accurate responses to all action items regarding the Suicide Prevention Program.
Major Duties:
Implements information systems to track services including visits, referrals, inpatient admissions, patient demographics, and patient satisfaction.
Responsible for data collection and monthly reports on all veterans who have had a recent suicide attempt and monitors the completion of the Suicide Behavior Report by other providers.
Responsible for data collection, administrative record keeping, monitoring of patient or program clinical indicators, and performance measurements.
In coordination with the rest of the provider staff, interprets and implements the philosophy and goals of the Mental Health Service and the program to which they are assigned to others in the work setting, functions within established guidelines and demonstrates the ability to work effectively and develop sound relationships with their patients, other caregivers, professional staff and supportive personnel who provide patient care.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
Education: Must have a Master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
Licensure: Suicide Prevention Coordinator must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure. In addition to the basic requirements, the following grade requirements must be met:
GS-12 Grade Determinations: Must have at least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
In addition, the candidates must demonstrate all of the KSAs:
Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary although some slight physical effort may be required such as walking, stooping, or lifting of no more than 15 Ibs.
The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12.
