This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties that include but not limited to the following;
Responsible for final decisions in assigned clinical programs.
Provides leadership and consultation for transfer decisions to/from other VA medical centers, Baker Act Emergency Commitments, Utilization Management of the acute inpatient unit, transfer to and from medical services within the medical center, as needed.
Patient Care: Dedicates 50% effort towards direct patient care.
Provides orientation and continuing education of all persons in their section, including psychiatrists, MH-assigned APRNs and other MH-assigned staff.
Oversees and rates the clinical performance of physicians and APRNs under their supervision.
Participates in the design of clinical rotations and education of trainees assigned to Psychiatry Services.
Serves as clinical subject matter expert on issues related to patient care associated with Mental Health Initiatives.
Collaborates with MH leadership in promoting the accomplishment of MH&BS, Medical Center and the Department of Veterans Affairs mission and goals.
Addresses impact of compliance/non-compliance by providers in regard to performance measures.
Ensures that Psychiatry Service has an appropriate service level plan for emergency preparedness and response to protect Veterans from harm and preserve MH psychiatric services. This is a collaborative process internally and externally across disciplines within MH&BS Services.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine in the field of medicine, specializing in Psychiatric medicine approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. HE/SHE fulfills the requirements for employment and credentials as determined by the Miami VAHCS, Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences Service, and Psychiatry Service. This includes completing mandatory and continuing educational requirements and maintaining an active medical license from a state, territory, possession, or district of the United States of America.
Residency Training; Successfully completed a psychiatric residency training program accredited by the ACGME, AOA, or both. For other clinical privileges, requirements for training and/or certification must also be met according to established standards of the facility professional standards board.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Additional requirements: The incumbent will remain cognizant of new medical developments and medical literature and must meet facility and licensing requirements for continuing medical education (CME). The responsibility to complete timely renewal of medical license, credentials, application for privileging and re-privileging, board certification and completion of needed CME credits remains with the physician. c. Maintains current proficiency and competency standards for hospital and service as well as continuing mandatory and medical education requirements in accordance with the medical center bylaws.

Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 lbs.); moderate carrying (15-44 lbs.); reaching over shoulders; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (up to 4 hours); standing (up to 8 hours); repeated bending (up to 4 hours); both legs required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/50 and to 20/40 in the other; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; both eyes required; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of color; hearing (aid permitted).
Education
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
- Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
- Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
- For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. [If the applicant does not claim an ECFMG certificate, facility officials must still confirm that the medical school meets (or met) ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year the candidate graduated.]
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
