Duties

Exercises supervisory authority over 5 - 9 subordinates working at or in training for a level equivalent to Training Instructor, GS-1712-09. Fulfills EEO, security and safety program responsibilities. Observes and critiques instructional activities of subordinate instructors. Conducts classroom, laboratory or field instruction. Develops and/or revises training materials and course control documents. Provides resources and requirements and facility utilization. Evaluates student progress and performance. Counsels students to identify and help resolve problems as required Maintains professional and technical expertise. Accomplishes special projects related to specialty area. Participates in Quality Air Force Program

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Training Instruction Series 1712 BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: ***This is a CCAF Position*** Section 9315 of 10 USC directs the commander of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) to comply with standards established by the Secretary of Education to confer associate degrees upon enlisted members who have completed the requirements for the prescribed programs of study. To comply with this directive, all faculty members of the Community College of the Air Force must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), i.e. all teachers must hold at least an associate's degree in order for the school to meet accreditation criteria. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: Directing both technical and administrative work of military, civilian, and contractor instructors who provide training to various levels of students in Telecommunications, basic and advanced principles of cable systems, installation and removal, and maintenance of command, control, communications, and computer (C4) cable systems and fiber optic cable installation and maintenance. Assures that all necessary resources (e.g., curriculum, equipment, facilities, and personnel) are available to meet the customer's needs. Plans and schedules work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities; assigns work in consideration of employee skills and mission requirements; develops performance standards and rates subordinate's performance; advises employees on work and administrative matters; implements methods and procedures to improve organizational performance; and identifies and provides for employee training and development. OR EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree Or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree Or LL.M., if related OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: : Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to supervise and manage a subordinate workforce. Knowledge and skill in the fundamentals of telephone cable systems, fiber optics and in in installation/maintenance of Local Area Network/Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN) Systems. Knowledge of instructional design and materials development for assigned courses and principles, practices, and techniques of instruction. Knowledge of tests and measurement principles, techniques and of training aids and devices used in training programs. Knowledge of operation and maintenance of equipment. Skill in accomplishing special training studies and projects. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
