Duties

This Teller position is located in the VISN 12 Great Lakes Finance Service (GLFS) at the Hines VA Hospital in Hines, IL. DUTIES INCLUDE: Designated as an authorized agent of the Treasury Department and is held responsible for the advance of funds received from the Treasury. Balances accounts daily to assure disbursements and collections. Balances the cash advance daily to account for any collections received or disbursements made. Submits Treasury reports, reconciliations, disbursements, and receipts to the Austin Finance Center. Maintains cash flow so adequate cash is on hands at all times to operate daily cashier funds. Collects cash, checks, and/or credit card transactions and prepares receipts and deposits. Verifies, collects, and deposits personal funds of patient every morning. Prepares field station receipts for collections using correct appropriation, reference number of patient account(s), and proper accounting information. Records deposits in depository system daily and prepares for transportation to bank via armored car service. Prevents access of unauthorized individuals to the Agent Cashier office. Assumes personal financial accountability for any monetary loss, which results from the performance of duties. Verifies that all employees that are in the clearance process are checked against files for indebtedness documents, and holds all checks until debts are paid. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/24/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. Selective Placement Factor: Have knowledge of banking and/or cash handling experience. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: GS-6 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level which provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Teller. Specialized experience includes but is not limited to: Experience with banking practices and currency. Experience balancing accounts daily to assure disbursements and collections. Experience collecting cash, checks, and/or credit card transactions and preparing receipts and deposits. Experience with security regulations and procedures to endure the safeguarding of cash and financial instruments. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is mainly sedentary, with some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as papers and books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
