Duties

Repair electrically/hydraulically controlled lock and dam gates, control valves, or other related equipment Repair/replace gate timbers or fenders. Repair crest gates, valves, wickets and/or bear traps on a lock and dam. Repair lock walls with construction forms. Perform operator maintenance on lock and dam gates, control valves, and/or relocated equipment Bypass/Repair electrically operated limit and proximity switches Operate gasoline and diesel generators and air compressors Operate electrically/hydraulically controlled lock and dam gates and control valves Operate two haulage equipment to move barges in and out of the lock chamber Operate a maneuver boat during wicket dam operation. Operate hoist to remove recess frames and panels for emergency gate operations Operate a programmable logic controlled lock and dam structure Monitor river gauge readings and ensure that equipment indicator levels are recorded by lower-graded personnel. Maintain proper pool elevation based on observations of pool fluctuations and computerized river reports. Maintain up to date knowledge of hand signaling and proper rigging techniques as needed for crane operations

Requirements

  • This is a Mission Essential position and is not subject to administrative dismissal in emergencies based on inclement weather conditions, or other emergency situations, as appropriate.
  • Wear a prescribed uniform based on site specific requirements.
  • Incumbent may also be required to have a valid state drivers license based on job related, site specific requirements.

Perform simple maintenance or repair tasks utilizing mechanical or electrical equipment. I can operate simple electrical or mechanical equipment such as lawn mowers, hedge clippers, electric drills, power wrenches, or hydraulic lifts. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionDexterity and SafetyLeadershipTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments Required to walk and stand continually. May occasionally be required to lift and hold lines and carry heavy tools, materials, and equipment. Occasionally is required to exert effort in snagging and clearing logs and other debris from the lock chamber. Work is performed out of doors under all types of weather conditions. Employee is exposed to all of the hazards inherent in working near water and in close proximity to moving machinery and electrical equipment. May occasionally be required to work behind bulkheads below the water level.
