Permanent Utility Systems Repairer Operator position for the Whiteriver Service Unit, Whiteriver, Arizona. The Incumbent will perform a variety of duties associated with the repair and operations of heating and air conditioning and ventilation systems, domestic water distribution systems, domestic sewage collection systems, medical gas alarm system, and various low voltage systems. The Incumbent will report to Facility Engineer Manager.

Duties

Operates, installs and maintains a variety of physical plant equipment that include high pressure boilers, steam to water heat exchangers, condensate systems, centrifugal, gear driven and turbine pumps, piping systems, and medical gas systems. Performs water treatment procedures and water analysis, using standard chemical tests, troubleshoot and diagnosis problems with physical plant equipment and initiates repairs. Operates, installs and maintains a variety of air conditioning equipment including high pressure screw chillers, heat pumps, ice machines, food serving carts, refrigerators and freezers, dietary equipment, LP gas furnaces and window A/C equipment and initiates repairs. Installs, maintains, and replaces a variety of electrical equipment components such as switches, receptacles, lighting ballasts and light fixtures. Troubleshoots and diagnosis problems and initiates repairs by tightening, soldering or replacing defective fixtures and controls. Utilizes a variety of electrical test equipment such as ohmmeters, voltage testers, amp meters and multi-meter.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: For WG-10 Grade Level: Applicant must have sufficient training and experience to carry out the duties of Utility Systems Repairer-Operator in independently (under limited supervision) performing inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairing and installing heating/cooling systems and equipment for the following systems: operation of domestic hot water tanks, hydronic steam boilers, HVAC systems, refrigeration units, medical vacuum pumps, chillers, air handlers, medical gas systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, access control, fire protection system, electrical generators/emergency generators. Skill to troubleshoot electronic/controls, reads and interprets blueprints and technical manuals in understanding the functions of parts/systems. Maintain operating conditions, make adjustments, carries out maintenance, and corrects variations in temperatures and pressures, make minor routine and emergency repairs to various equipment operated. PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Frequently lifting and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Climbing and working at heights on ladders, scaffolding and platforms. Works in hard-to-reach places, therefore, stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling are frequently for long periods of time. MEDICAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be physically able to perform efficiently the duties of the position. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed indoors, where there is exposure to dust, dirt, escaping gases, chemicals, heat, steam, and unpleasant odors. Potential for burns, electrical shocks, cuts, strains, bruise, and chemical irritations. Occasionally, may work outdoors under adverse weather conditions. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
