The Police Officer position is for South Texas Veterans Health Care System within Police Service. The incumbent will be assigned to one of the following location(s) below: Audie L. Murphy VAMC in San Antonio, Texas Kerrville VA Medical Center in Kerrville, Texas This position serves as a vital part of the VA Police Services often serving as the face of the VA and as the first person a Veteran or visitor encounters when entering a VA facility.

Duties

This vacancy is a solicitation for a Hiring Fair Event, which will be on an invite only basis once the position qualifications have been met. If you receive an invitation, you will be required to attend in person on: Date: 08/26/2023 Time: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM Location of Hiring Event: Audie L. Murphy VA Medical Center - Address and map of hiring fair location will be provided to candidates who have met minimum qualifications for invitation. You will be notified of your qualifications and if determined to be minimally qualified, you will receive an invitation for interview and MUST RSVP. Applicants should plan for a long day if selected, as there are several pre-employment stations to clear. Requirements for Pre-Employment Screening: Fingerprints (Two forms of ID required) Security background Immunizations (Immunization records preferred) *** Bargaining Position *** Duties may include but are not limited to: Protects the civil rights of all individuals on VA controlled property. Prevents, detect and investigate crimes. Patrols assigned areas on foot or by motor vehicle. Subdues persons causing disturbance or who threaten harm to themselves or others. Follows rules/procedures concerning search and seizure of evidence and contraband. Obtains search and arrest warrants. Arrests violators. Provides basic first aid and CPR prior to arrival of emergency medical personnel. Prepares report of activities and events that occurred during shift. Performs traffic control. Assists citizens in emergency situations. Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts which may include nights and weekends-6:00a.m. to 6:00p.m.; 6:00a.m to 2:00p.m.; 6:00p.m. to 6:00a.m.; 6:00p.m. to 2:00a.m.; Compressed Work Schedule may be available. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR): Specialized Experience: Experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. GS-6 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Protects individuals during any given situation against threats to personal safety when enforcing laws and regulations; Writes comprehensive incident reports; Provides policing services in various environments where each type of jurisdiction (Exclusive, Concurrent and Proprietorial) has different enforcement rules; Detects and intervenes in criminal activity; Seeks, detects, seizes, and protects evidence and witnesses at the scene of an incident; Detects and intervenes in criminal activity; Enforces traffic rules and regulations, including those related to speeding and reckless operation of vehicles while impaired or intoxicated; Conducts investigative contacts/stops, exercising search and arrest authority, detaining witnesses, and apprehending suspects; Advises individuals of their rights (such as Miranda, Weingarten, Garrity, etc.), and protecting the constitutional and civil rights of persons. NOTE: You must provide detailed information of your experience performed. Information such as "I was a Patrolman", "I was a Police Officer for a number of years," or "I enforced Federal, State, county, and laws" is insufficient to determine your qualifications. Experience must be fully documented in your resume and must include job title, duties, month & year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: -Public Safety and Security -Security -Criminal Investigation -Arrest -First Response -Interpersonal Skills Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
