This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Works as an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic team member to implement maintenance and repair procedures on Electronic/Pneumatic Systems.

Duties

Installs, troubleshoots, overhauls, repairs, modifies, tests, calibrates, and analyzes process control systems composed of a number of inter-connected and integrated controlling instruments and devices. Localizing to a particular unit by use of control system theory and knowledge of process operations. Uses the full range of tools typical of the electronic/pneumatic trade, e.g., drills, wrenches, soldering irons, volt meters, multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, etc. Maintain and properly use, care and storage of certified calibrate instruments. Fire protection systems including troubleshoot, diagnose and repair of fire system controls.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program.
  • Pre-appointment physical is required and annual physical annually thereafter.
  • Required to wear necessary protective equipment to perform duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common tasks including installation, maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair to various types of highly complex electronic sensing and control systems; interpret and apply engineering drawings to trace signal flow through less complex systems during troubleshooting; assisted with installing, repairing, maintaining and testing equipment and machinery used in the production of ammunition. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The electronic industrial controls mechanic frequently makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms and where the system and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. This requires him to stand, stoop, bend, and kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The electronic industrial control mechanic frequently handles, lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, may lift and carry items that weigh over 40 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dusty. The electronic industrial control mechanic is sometimes required to work installations and repairs in areas where noxious fumes are present. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of uncomfortable heat and cold conditions. Frequently exposed to loud noises and possibility of strains, cuts, scraps, bruises, burns. When working in munitions manufacturing and incinerator areas, employee is subjected to the possibility of hazards from toxic chemical and explosives items.
