This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and Major Range and Test Facilities Base, NDAA 1125 (a) and (c). About the Position: Serves as a High Voltage Electrician at the Tooele Army Depot with responsibility for the overhaul, installation, maintenance, and/or repair of the electrical distribution system and all associated components.

Duties

Performs the full range of work involved in the maintenance, installation, and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution system. Maintains all exterior street, parking lot, and building lights and all other related exterior wires. Maintains transformers, circuit breakers, and switch gear in main substation. Employee will occasionally be required to operate engineer or motor vehicle equipment such as a backhoe, front-end loader, dump truck, etc., to accomplish work requirements. Assists electricians/electronic mechanics in servicing, repairing, and installing various types of electrical components or equipment at TEAD Installs various electrical devices (switches, outlets, controls, panels, lighting fixtures, motors, conduit systems, transformers, instrumentation devices, and feeder and branch circuits). Inspects, cleans, repairs, and maintains lighting, heating, emergency power control, and wiring systems; and checks for proper operation of electrical equipment. Installs, modifies, repairs, troubleshoots, loads, and test new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment. Troubleshoots components and disassembles, repairs, and reassembles complete devices and subassemblies of various electrical systems.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Employee is required to have his/her name on a call out list and be called back to work during non-duty hours (including weekends) to support emergency situations or make emergency repairs.
  • Employee is required to work in an ammunition area.
  • This position comes under the Drug Abuse Testing Program and the incumbent will be tested in accordance with AR 600-85.
  • Employee is required to obtain and maintain within 6 months after job appointment, the required state and federal government licenses and certifications needed to perform the job requirements.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 6 months after appointment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) High Voltage Electrician ~ without more than normal supervision. I have installed, maintained, modified and repaired electrical wiring systems, related switches, fixtures, distribution panels, and/or outlet boxes; and a wide variety of electrical components and devices. I have worked from prints, wiring diagrams, drawings and/or manuals to plan and lay out routing, type, size, load, and safe operation of lines, circuits, systems and equipment. I have performed high voltage electrician duties such as servicing, repairing and installing various high voltage systems, circuits and equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires pole climbing, utilizing legs and arms. Lift heavy loads weighing up to 45 pounds and heavier on occasion, using hand lines; working from bucket trucks to raise load up to heights of 55 feet. Kneel, stoops, bends, frequently over long periods of time. Uses coordination of eyes, hands, legs, and body in installing, repairing, or testing electrical equipment in confined spaces such as manholes, enclosed switch gear, overhead buss and conduit assemblies, or overhead distribution lines. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside during performance of duties. Subject to inclement weather conditions. Work requires pole climbing, where incumbent is in close proximity to high voltage lines and equipment. Subject to falls from poles, booms, ladders, and scaffolding; strains from working in awkward positions; and less serious cuts and bruises when handling tools and materials. Subject to cuts, burns and electric shock. May be exposed to explosive munitions. Subject to wearing respirator occasionally.
